Philippines Defence Spending Plans 2017
With President Rodrigo Duterte signing off the 2017 national defence budget of PHP137.2 billion (USD 2.76 billion) into law last December, this marked an 18% increase in defence expenditure compared to 2016. In addition, with the second horizon of the Philippine military modernization plan coming up in 2018, 2017 is expected to be a significant year for defencerelated procurement and activity. Top on the agenda at the moment are upgrades for two new frigates, the multipurpose patrol vessel programme, and two maritime patrol aircraft.
